Phoenix Parks and Recreation is looking for individuals and groups to volunteer at the South Mountain Run/Bike Classic on Saturday, March 10 at beautiful South Mountain Park. This is an all day event, with shifts available from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
We are looking for volunteers to spend a day of service manning water stations for participants, serving as course marshalls, and staffing the registration, information and t-shirt stations.
There are several positions, shifts and locations along South Mountain to choose from, so give us a call and see what we can find for you to do on this special day of service!
For more information or to register, please contact Alonso Avita at alonso.avitia@phoenix.gov or 602-534-8222.
ABOUT THE EVENT
Cyclists and runners will get to test their skills March 10 at South Mountain Park/Preserve, 10919 S. Central Ave., while helping to support the Phoenix Parks Foundation. The Landis Cyclery South Mountain Bike and Run Classic is set amidst the grandeur of the park’s glorious Sonoran Desert setting. A family festival from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. will allow people of all ages to get into the act. Kids can also join a free bike race at 4 p.m. on the circuit course.
The event is a partnership between the Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department, White Mountain Road Club and Running Masters to benefit the Phoenix Parks Foundation. Ten dollars of each registration will go to the Foundation, which supports parks, preserves, recreation facilities and programs in Phoenix. Additional event sponsors include Salt River Project, Pivot Cycles and BH Ultralight Bicycles. Click here for event details.
Road cyclists in the Bike Classic can choose from a series of circuit races on a two-mile course through the roadways at the mountain's base. Climbers can join a race up the park's Summit Road - an elevation gain of approximately 1,200 feet. Cyclists can find event details online as links from the event or directly at wmrc.org for race information or BikeReg.com to register.
